 03 — ORIENTATION

How do we know where we are within an image?

Orientation relies on visual cues that are usually taken for granted. Direction, perspective and familiar spatial relationships allow us to establish a position almost immediately.

When these references become uncertain, spatial relationships begin to shift. A surface may appear to advance or recede; what seems above may no longer define where we are below.

The physical space remains unchanged. What becomes unstable is our position within it.
