02 — RECOGNITION
What happens before we know what we are looking at?
Recognition gives visual information an identity: an object, a place, a situation.
When familiar references are reduced, recognition is delayed. For a moment, colour, light, surface and direction remain without fixed meaning. The eye searches for structure while the image remains unresolved.
In this interval, before perception settles into recognition, seeing itself moves into the foreground.
